Imagine a room in the basement of a random building. As the man enters, to his left are pamphlets for many different support groups and to his right is a table with coffee and donuts. The kindly old man who stands before the man hands him a specific pamphlet with the letters, P.A. on the front in large and friendly letters. Behind him is a circle of uncomfortable looking chairs.
“Welcome, fellow Pantser. Is this your first time?
“Why yes, it is.”
“You are welcome to listen to the others speak if you don’t want to but we’d be happy to listen if you feel like sharing.”
“Thanks”
The man sits on the nearest chair listening to the idle conversations going on around him. The kindly older man joins the joins the group and asks, “Welcome, everyone. Who’d like to start tonight?”
The man raises his hand. The kindly old man claps along with the rest of the group and gestures for the man to stand.
Clearing his throat he says, “Hello, everyone. My name is Nate and I’ve been a Pantser for my whole life but I’m only ready to admit it today.”
The group choruses back to him, “Welcome, Nate.”
Okay, okay that was just a bit of fun but admitting to the world at large that I am a Pantser (not my term) is a little uncomfortable. When I finally decided to really give this lifelong aspiration a real try, I was surprised at my most successful attempt so far was just a simple idea, what if four superheroes with want seems like really awful or lame superpowers have to save the world and here I am almost thirty thousand words into the story, and it feels like I’m even more amped to do this than when I started. I just in the last few days figured out the bad guy, what he is going to do to put the world into peril. It’s really fun to watch the characters move through this world and do things that I personally wasn’t expecting. I think the gremlin in the back of my mind are secretly feeding ideas into my subconscious and they come out onto the page. Either that or my mind has started receiving stories from another universe. No matter what I thought I’d need at least a barebones outline to make this work and I don’t have one. I hope that doesn’t mean that this is a big stinking pitcher of dumpster juice.
Now for the coffee part. I started a Ko-Fi account and put up an Epub version of my first seven chapters for free and to make reading them more convenient. Please remember that these are very rough as it is simply the story pouring from my mind to the page. There are definitely some grammatical errors, but I do put the files through two spell checkers so there shouldn’t be any spelling errors. But nothing’s perfect. Anyway the Epub is free and there is a tip jar, but tips are not required but always welcome. Well, I got get back to the story, Chapter 9 is banging on my head to be released. Chapter nine Meetings old and new should be out soon.
Slainte,
Nate
